WIP Wednesday Status

Do you remember my list of WIPs from last Wednesday?   I’ll refresh your memory, then give you a status report.

Last Wednesday I listed these items:

-  Pin-keeps

- Paper pieced baskets wallhanging

- Bird embroidery

- Easter chicks, paper-piecing

- Sewing my new shirt

I did fairly well on that day I had to myself.  I even ate lunch, though it was on my time schedule so it probably wasn’t lunch time as we know it. :-0

Strawberry pin-keeps (pincushions)

I can cross the strawberries off my WIP list.  It now goes on the Completed list.   Aren’t they cute?  I made them 1/2 the size of the pattern.  When I looked at the pattern, it seemed like the strawberries would be about 6″ in height which seemed too large to me.  Now they are about 3″ in height and I must say I have had a fresh strawberry that size.  I like them!

Wearing the shirt

Here I am last Wednesday trying to take a photo of the new shirt I had just finished.  Not a very good shot!  So here’s the shirt on a hanger.

Pletch/Palmer shirt

Here’s the shirt.  I wore it last week and it’s pretty comfortable.  It was the first time I had used a Pletch/Palmer pattern and I was quite impressed with the tips and instructions they give to help make a well-fitting shirt.  It’s lightweight cotton so it was very comfortable to wear in the 86 degrees temperature last Friday at the Tractor Event.  Shirt-Complete.

Five Paper-Pieced Baskets

Another WIP from last Wednesday was the paper-pieced baskets.  If you recall I needed to make another basket so I could have five to complete a wall-hanging.  The one I made last Wednesday is the middle one. It has a pink basket and an aqua flower.  I didn’t have any fabric to complete the wall-hanging so today I picked up a white on black and a black on white to do the alternate squares and border.  I’ll be working on that tonight when I finish this post.

I had hopes of getting the wall-hanging done this afternoon but after two weeks of not going to line dancing and water aerobics in the same day, I didn’t have the energy left to get down to the work of putting the pieces together.  I started a new book instead.  Thus, it’s still a WIP.

Bird…..that was on the list.  I did finish embroidering the bird block.  I can’t share it with you as it’s a gift for someone and she hasn’t seen it yet. So, call that Complete!

The only remaining WIP on that list was the Easter Chicks.  I think they couldn’t really be called WIPs because they are still just a plan in my mind.  No cutting, no stitching has been done.   I didn’t even take them out of the box to look at them last Wednesday.  There just wasn’t any time left to tackle them.   I had them on the bottom of the list as I wanted all the other things done first.

So, now if I make a new list tonight of WIPs, it looks like this:

Basket Wall-hanging

Easter Chicks (if you insist)

and something I completely forgot about:

Final Four Civil War blocks     I’m sure you remember seeing some of my Civil War blocks that I had been working on each week in 2011.  The holiday projects pushed those final four blocks to the back burner and I pushed the box under a chair.  It’s still there!  Now that I’ve remembered them, they definitely need to be on my list of WIPs.

It’s not really too bad a list, the wall-hanging and four CW blocks.  I think I can get them done this week and then I can decide if the chicks are going to be on the  WIP list next week.  I’ll let you know.

One finished Basket block

This is a finished basket wallhanging — not mine.   This is made by one of the gals I sent a block to, Nananu.  The block in the upper left corner is the basket she received from me.   I love the butterflies she added in the corners.  She said they came from JoAnn’s and she hand-quilted the flight of the butterflies around each block.  Lovely!    She’s the inspiration for me to get my wallhanging done.  Only one other person has shared their finished project on the Carol Doak Yahoo Group site.

Book Review

I just finished  Crewel World, #1 in the Needlecraft Mystery series by Monica Ferris.  In this book the owner of Crewel World is found dead in her store and her sister, recently moved in, is left with a shop she knows nothing about.  She has a great group of supporters who help her inventory the shop and put things back together.   Thrown into the story and “a person of interest” is the landlord who has tried to get the shop closed so he can tear the building done and build a tall condo and make his millions.  Betsy, the remaining sister, searches for answers to why someone would want to kill her sister, and of course the landlord seems the likely candidate.

It’s a light book filled with descriptions of needlework, crewel and knit items the supporters of Crewel World are making.  It makes you feel like you have walked into a very comfortable, friendly shop and are ready to pick out your next project. There’s even a pet cat involved in the story.  Something for everyone!   If you get a chance to find this book, give it a try.  It is set in Minnesota and you even learn a bit of history of Minnesota while working your way through the book.  I know there are at least 14 books in this series so if you like reading series, this one’s for you.

That’s all for tonight.  Tomorrow, we’ll be back to Around the Table to see what’s happening with the Quilt Guild.  Take care and make this a special evening.

Hugs,

Marsha

About Quilter in Motion

I'm a full-time RVer, quilter, artist, and avid reader. I do all my quilting in a 34' RV called a fifth wheel, so named because it is towed behind a truck and the hitch sits in the bed of the truck thus the "fifth wheel". I get asked a lot how I can quilt in such a small space and I thought I'd write about how I do it, including some hints and tips that might help all quilters.

  3. eek! Those little strawberries are SO adorable! ^_^ Kudos to you for making your own shirt. I’m intimidated by clothing, I stick to quilts! Something about the 3D weirds me out I guess. I’m a flat project kind of girl!
